About Upper Room Studies

Upper Room Studies exists to serve those who want to read Scripture carefully, patiently, and as a unified story.

It was created out of a growing conviction that much of our difficulty with Scripture does not come from lack of sincerity or effort, but from fragmentation—reading passages in isolation rather than within the covenantal pattern that holds the Bible together.

This work is not driven by trends, urgency, or novelty. It is shaped by a slower posture: returning to the text, allowing questions to linger, and learning to see the coherence of God’s actions before focusing on human response.

A Particular Way of Reading Scripture

At the heart of Upper Room Studies is a consistent biblical pattern:

  • God acts first.

  • Grace precedes command.

  • Identity is given before obedience is required.

This pattern appears again and again—across covenants, across generations, and across the full arc of Scripture. When this order is missed, Scripture can feel disjointed, burdensome, or transactional. When it is seen clearly, the Bible reads as one unfolding story of faithful divine initiative and patient human response.

Upper Room Studies exists to help readers recognize and inhabit that pattern.

Not a Program, Not a Curriculum

Upper Room Studies is not a program to complete or a curriculum to keep up with.

The studies are written to be returned to rather than finished, and to resist the pressure of productivity that often follows modern approaches to learning. Reflection is valued over speed. Attention is valued over accumulation.

This posture is intentional. Scripture does not yield its depth under pressure.

Relationship to the Local Church

Upper Room Studies is designed to serve—not replace—the teaching life of the local church.

The work respects congregational leadership, theological conviction, and the formative rhythms already present within church communities. Whether used by individuals, small groups, or leaders, the aim is always coherence and faithfulness rather than disruption or novelty.

Upper Room Studies is especially attentive to the convictions and teaching traditions within Churches of Christ, and seeks to work within those commitments with care and humility.

About the Teacher

Upper Room Studies is written and taught by Dustin Taylor.

Dustin has spent years teaching Scripture in church settings, developing guided studies, and working with individuals and groups who desire a more coherent and faithful way of reading the Bible. His work has grown out of sustained study, pastoral concern, and a deep respect for Scripture as something to be handled carefully rather than hurriedly.

Upper Room Studies reflects a long-term commitment to teaching Scripture in a way that is clear, grounded, and attentive to the larger covenant story it tells.

A Quiet Invitation

Upper Room Studies is not for everyone, and it is not meant to be.

It exists for those who recognize themselves in a slower pace, a patient posture, and a desire to read Scripture with greater coherence and trust. Some engage for a season. Some return regularly. Others simply pass through.

All of those are faithful responses.
